1. Mac OS X stores mouse and trackpad settings independently. If you want to disable acceleration on a trackpad instead of a mouse, the instructions are the same, just replace with com.apple.trackpad.scaling wherever you see com.apple.mouse.scaling in the above (and use the Trackpad pane of System Preferences instead of the Mouse pane, obviously).
2. MiddleClick is an open-source app that delivers this helpful function to Mac users who don't know what they're missing, as well as those who are well aware but have no idea how to enable it. The app simply emulates a scroll wheel click whenever you click or tap your trackpad or Magic Mouse with three fingers. Life without a middle click.

Admittedly that’s a quirky solution, but it does work to resolve inexplicable mouse failures in modern versions of MacOS and Mac OS X on the MacBook line.
